Bodyboards at Rider Shack
Bodyboarding is one of the most accessible ways to ride waves — lower barrier to entry than surfing, fun for all ages, and a genuine rush in the right conditions. Venice Beach and the South Bay produce the kind of beach break that bodyboards love — hollow, fast-breaking waves that are harder to surf but perfect for prone riding.
What to look for
Size — bodyboards are sized by height. A board that reaches your belly button when standing is roughly the right length. Core material — polyethylene (PE) cores are heavier but more durable and perform better in colder water. Polypropylene (PP) cores are stiffer and more responsive, preferred by performance riders. Tail shape — crescent tail for more control and hold. bat tail for more release and spin tricks.
Accessories
A bodyboard leash attaches to your wrist and keeps the board from washing away in the impact zone. Browse bodyboard leashes. Fins — swimming fins help you catch more waves and get into them earlier. Essential for serious bodyboarding.
