Skate hardware at Rider Shack
Bushings and truck hardware — the small components that fine-tune how your surf skate carves and responds. Getting the right bushing hardness for your weight and riding style makes a noticeable difference in how a Carver or surf skate feels.
Orangatang bushings
Orangatang makes bushings specifically engineered for surf skate and longboard trucks. Two shapes and three hardnesses cover most riders and setups.
Knuckles
A barrel/barrel combination designed for stability and carving. Knuckles Soft (82.5a) — for lighter riders or those who want a looser, more surf-like carve. Knuckles Medium (90a) — the versatile everyday option for most riders. Works well with Carver C7 and CX trucks.
Nipples
A cone/barrel combination that gives more lean and a looser feel than the Knuckles. Nipples Orange Soft (80a) — maximum lean and surf feel, best for lighter riders. Nipples Purple Medium (87a) — balanced lean and stability. Nipples Yellow Hard (93a) — for heavier riders or those who want more resistance and stability at speed.
Bushing hardness guide
As a general rule: lighter riders and those who want a deeper carve go softer. Heavier riders and those who want more stability go harder. For Carver C7 trucks, the factory bushings are a good middle ground — Orangatang bushing upgrades are for surfers who want to fine-tune beyond the factory setup.
