Where we are

13211 W. Washington Blvd. sits in a stretch of West Los Angeles that connects Venice Beach to Culver City. We're close to a lot of ground — Marina del Rey is a five-minute drive north, Playa del Rey and El Porto are a few minutes south, and Santa Monica is ten minutes up the coast. If you're coming from the Westside, the 90 freeway drops you within a mile. From the South Bay, Lincoln Blvd. brings you straight up.

We're surrounded by the neighborhoods that make up the core of Los Angeles surf culture: Venice, Mar Vista, Playa Vista, Del Rey, and Marina del Rey. Our customers come from as far as Malibu and Manhattan Beach, and we regularly ship orders across Los Angeles County and beyond — but if you're anywhere on the Westside, we're worth the drive.

Neighborhoods we serve

Rider Shack is the local surf shop for the west side of Los Angeles. We stock gear for every break from County Line down to Redondo — shortboards for the quick beach break at El Porto, longboards for the slower rolls at Venice Breakwater, wetsuits suited to the actual water temperatures at each stretch of coast through the seasons. If you surf Los Angeles, this is your shop.

We work with customers from Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey, El Porto, Hermosa Beach, Culver City, Mar Vista, Westwood, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and anywhere else in the Los Angeles area where people surf. We know these breaks. We know what gear works here.

What to expect when you visit

Come in and tell us what you're working with — your experience level, what you're riding now, what you're trying to do in the water. We'll steer you toward the right board or gear without any pressure. Our staff surfs. We give the same advice we'd give a friend.

If you're looking at a new board, we can pull multiple options off the rack and talk through why one shape might work better for where you surf. If you have a board that needs repair, bring it in for a free quote. If you're new to surfing and want to try it before you buy, ask about our daily rental program — rental credit applies toward a purchase within 14 days.

Local breaks near our shop

We're a short drive from some of the most-surfed breaks in Los Angeles. Venice Beach Breakwater produces some of the best longboard-friendly waves in the city when conditions are right. El Porto at the north end of Manhattan Beach is one of the most consistent beach breaks on the Westside — powerful and punchy, better suited to shorter boards. Sunset Beach and Zuma up in Malibu offer a different pace entirely. Point Dume on a good northwest swell can be exceptional.

Water temperatures in Los Angeles range from around 58°F in winter to 70°F in late summer. Most local surfers wear a 3/2mm wetsuit from October through May and either a spring suit or boardshorts from June through September, depending on tolerance. We carry the full Rip Curl and O'Neill lineup in store and can help you figure out the right thickness for when and where you surf.
