5-fin sets buying guide
A 5-fin set includes five fins — two front side fins, two rear side fins, and one center fin — in a matched template. If your board has five fin boxes, this single purchase lets you ride as a thruster (all five boxes with center fin in) or as a quad (center fin removed, four side fins only).
How it works
The four side fins stay in the board at all times. The center fin is what changes the setup. Insert it for a thruster; remove it for a quad. Switching takes under a minute and changes the feel significantly.
Which boards take 5-fin sets?
About two thirds of new shortboards in our inventory have 5-fin boxes, including most Firewire models and many Lost, Pyzel, and Channel Islands shapes. Many fish boards and some midlengths also have them. Boards this applies to: shortboards, fish surfboards, some midlengths.
Sizing
Medium (65–80 kg / 145–175 lbs) and Large (75–90 kg / 165–200 lbs) are the most common sizes in our inventory. All five fins are consistently sized within each set.
FCS II vs Futures 5-fin sets
FCS II sets include the Matt Biolos AM PC series. Futures 5-fin sets are also available. Your set must match your board's fin system. Browse FCS and FCS II and Futures.
5-fin set vs buying separately
A 5-fin set is usually better value than buying thruster and quad sets separately. Buy a thruster set if you only want thruster. Buy a quad set if you only want quad. Buy a 5-fin set if you want both.
