Ear and nose plugs for surfers
Surfer's ear is one of the most common long-term health issues in surfing — caused by cold water and wind exposure over years of regular surfing. The bony growths that develop in the ear canal gradually reduce hearing and can require surgery. Ear plugs designed for surfing prevent cold water from entering the ear canal without significantly affecting hearing or balance.
Who needs ear plugs
Any regular surfer who surfs more than a few times per week in water below 65°F should consider ear plugs. LA water runs 58–65°F for most of the year — right in the temperature range where surfer's ear develops. Prevention is dramatically easier than treatment.
