FCS and FCS II fins buying guide

FCS is one of the two major removable fin systems in surfing alongside Futures. If your board has FCS or FCS II fin boxes, your performance fins (thrusters, quads, twins) must match that system. FCS II single fins are a special case — more on that below.

FCS II vs original FCS

FCS II — the current system. Two-tab snap-in design, no tools required (screws strongly recommended for hard surfing and larger fins). Most boards made in the last several years use FCS II.

Original FCS — two-tab design requiring a fin key to install and remove. FCS II fins can fit in original FCS boxes with a sold-separately adapter. Original FCS fins do not fit FCS II boxes. If your board is older, check which generation of FCS boxes you have.

FCS II single fins — fit any standard US longboard box

This is worth knowing: FCS II single fins (the Connect and Clique series) fit standard US longboard fin boxes — the long center slot found on most traditional longboards and many midlengths. No adapter, no special box required. The fin drops in and is secured with the standard screw just like any other single fin. On boards with an FCS II center box they also click in without tools. This means you can use FCS II single fins on any longboard regardless of its fin box brand, giving you more options when shopping for a center fin. Browse FCS II single fins.
