Fin Setup Tips

This board is set up for a Futures thruster, which is a great match for a performance-oriented shortboard:

  • Medium template thruster: A go-to for balanced speed, drive, and pivot in most conditions.
  • Larger thruster: More hold and control if you’re surfing with power or riding in punchier waves.
  • Smaller thruster: Looser feel and quicker release in softer surf (with a bit less hold).

Note: Fins are not included, so you can choose the Futures set that matches your size, style, and local waves.

Who This 5'11" / 32.7L Setup Is For

  • Surfers who want a performance daily driver with a bit of extra forgiveness
  • Riders looking for a board that can handle average-to-good conditions without constant compromise
  • Anyone who prefers a thruster feel for predictable control and clean turning arcs

FAQ: Lost Big Rig Driver 5'11" (32.7L) Futures

Are fins included with this board?

No. This board is listed as fins not included. It uses a Futures thruster setup, so you’ll need a 3-fin Futures set.

What type of waves is the Big Rig Driver best for?

It’s designed as a versatile shortboard that works well in a broad range of everyday conditions. It’s a great pick when you want performance and control in typical surf while still having the foam to keep you moving on less-than-perfect days.

What thruster fins should I start with?

A medium template Futures thruster is a solid starting point for most surfers because it balances speed, drive, and maneuverability. From there, you can size up for more hold or size down for a looser feel.

Is 32.7L a lot of volume for a 5'11" performance board?

It’s on the user-friendly side, which can be a benefit—especially if you want easier paddling and wave entry without losing the ability to surf the board aggressively.

Can I ride this board as a step-up?

Most surfers use boards like this as a daily driver rather than a true step-up. If you regularly surf bigger, heavier waves, a dedicated step-up with more hold and length may be a better fit.
