A good boardshort does two things: it performs in the water and looks right out of it. The best boardshorts move with you in the surf, dry fast, don't chafe, and transition from the lineup to the parking lot to the taco stand without looking like you're wearing surf gear. We design our house brand boardshorts specifically for that — Southern California surf culture, not just surf performance.
Rider Shack house brand boardshorts
The majority of our boardshort range is our own Rider Shack brand — designed in Venice Beach for the conditions and lifestyle of the LA surf scene. We run a wide range of fabrics and fits: 4-way stretch for maximum movement in the water, classic boardshort fabrics for a traditional feel, walkshort cuts for more versatility off the beach, and volley shorts for lightweight everyday wear.

Florence Marine X
Florence Marine X is John John Florence's surf apparel brand, launched with a commitment to sustainable materials and ocean-conscious manufacturing. The Airtex Gamma, Cordura Airtex, and Standard Issue boardshorts are built for serious surfing — technical fabrics, minimal design, performance fit. An 18.5" inseam sits mid-thigh, the current standard for surf performance boardshorts.
O'Neill and Rip Curl boardshorts
O'Neill brings their surf heritage to the Hyperfreak Heat Stripe and OG Sideline Cruzer. The Superfreak runs a classic surf silhouette. Rip Curl's Mirage range — the Panel Beater, Search, Mason Barrel Killa, and Icons of Surf — covers classic Rip Curl surf designs with functional construction.
Boardshort fit guide
Waist — boardshorts should sit at your natural waist with some room to breathe. Too tight and the lace cinches down when wet. Length — standard surf boardshorts run 18"–21" from waistband to hem. Shorter for more movement in the water. Longer for more coverage on the beach. Fabric — 4-way stretch for maximum surf performance. Standard fabrics for traditional feel. Lighter fabrics (volley) for everyday off-beach wear. Closure — most boardshorts use a combination of velcro and a drawstring. Make sure the velcro lies flat against the board — a raised velcro tab will ding your board.
