Becker Surfboards — a California legacy brand
Becker Surfboards was one of the most respected names in Southern California surfing for over 50 years. Founded by Jack Becker in Hermosa Beach in the 1950s, Becker grew into a chain of surf shops and a house shaping label that produced high-quality surfboards across every category — longboards, midlengths, fish, and shortboards. At their peak they had locations across the South Bay and Orange County and were one of the defining surf retail brands in Los Angeles.
Becker Surfboards and Becker Surf shops closed permanently. New Becker boards are no longer produced.
Used Becker surfboards at Rider Shack
We occasionally carry used Becker surfboards in our consignment inventory — longboards, midlengths, and fish in the shapes that Becker built their reputation on. These are well-made boards from a respected shaping heritage and often represent excellent value in the used market.
Becker's house shapers produced boards in the classic California longboard tradition — wide point forward, single and 2+1 fin setups, glide-focused outlines. The mid-length and fish shapes were practical everyday boards built for Southern California beach break. If you find a Becker board in good condition, it's worth considering.

What to look for in a used Becker board
As with any used surfboard, condition is everything. Look for:
Delamination — press gently on the deck. Any soft spots or bubbling between the glass and foam indicate water intrusion. Minor delamination is repairable; extensive delamination affects the board's integrity significantly.
Dings and cracks — small pressure dings are normal on any used board. Open cracks that expose foam need repair before the board can be ridden. We repair all used boards we sell to a surfable condition, but always inspect before buying.
Fin boxes — check that fin boxes are solid and undamaged. A cracked or poorly repaired fin box affects both fin retention and board stiffness.
Shape and rocker — Becker longboards typically feature a flatter entry rocker with a slight tail kick, good for nose riding and classic trim. If the board has been stored poorly and shows any warping, pass on it.
