The Lost RNF 1996 is a modern take on a classic fish feel—fast, fun, and built to fly through sections while still holding a clean line when you put it on rail. This 5'7" x 20" x 2.44" (30.75L) version is a nimble, responsive size that keeps the board lively underfoot, with enough volume to stay user-friendly in everyday surf.

Fast, Loose, and Surprisingly Versatile

The RNF 1996 is made for surfers who want that skatey speed and smooth flow of a fish, but with a more controlled feel than a traditional twin when the wave gets steeper. It’s the kind of board that makes average days feel better—and good days feel like you brought the right tool.

Why This 5'7" / 30.75L Setup Works

  • Quick and responsive: Shorter length keeps it snappy for tight pockets and faster transitions.
  • Easy speed: A wider outline helps generate glide without constant pumping.
  • Futures versatility: Run it as a thruster, or unlock more speed as a twin + trailer.
  • Daily-driver fun: A go-to option when you want to maximize wave count and smiles.

Fin Setup Tips: Thruster vs. Twin + Trailer

The RNF 1996 shines because you can tune the feel with fins—fast and loose, or more controlled and predictable.

  • Thruster: More hold and stability with a familiar performance shortboard feel—great when the wave is steeper or you want tighter arcs.
  • Twin + trailer: Adds speed and freedom through turns, with the trailer fin giving you extra control so it doesn’t feel too slippery when you push harder.

Note: Fins are not included, so you can choose a Futures thruster set or a twin + trailer combo to match your local waves.

Great For

  • Surfers who want fish speed with a more controlled feel
  • Riders who like experimenting with thruster vs. twin + trailer setups
  • Everyday conditions where you want easy momentum and quick, fun turns

FAQ: Lost RNF 1996 5'7" (30.75L) Futures

Are fins included with this board?

No—this board is listed as fins not included. It uses a Futures fin system, so you’ll need Futures fins for any setup.

Does it really work well as a twin with trailer?

Yes. Running a twin + trailer is a popular choice on the RNF 1996 because it keeps the board fast and playful while the small trailer fin adds control and confidence when you put it on rail.

What’s the advantage of a thruster setup on the RNF 1996?

A thruster adds predictability and hold, especially in steeper pockets or when you want a tighter turning radius. It’s a great default setup if you’re unsure where to start.

What kind of waves is this board best for?

The RNF 1996 excels in small-to-medium surf and any day you want speed through flatter sections. With the right fins, it can handle better waves too—thruster for control, twin + trailer for speed and flow.

Is 30.75L enough volume for easy paddling?

For many surfers, 30.75L in a 5'7" offers a nice balance of float and responsiveness. Your ideal volume depends on your weight, fitness, and how much help you want on the paddle.
