O'Neill Hyperfreak Fire buying guide
The Hyperfreak Fire is O'Neill's warmest high-performance wetsuit — the ideal happy medium between maximum warmth and maximum performance, as O'Neill puts it. It uses TechnoButter 4 neoprene with graphene-infused fibers that create a thermal feedback loop.
TechnoButter 4 and TB4 Firewall
TechnoButter 4 (TB4) builds on the legendary TB3 — recycled yarns infused with graphene for increased wear strength, incredible stretch, and heat retention. The Hyperfreak Fire uses TB4 on the shoulder, shin, and calf panels, TB4X on the entry and sleeves for maximum stretch, and TB4 Firewall on the front, back, thigh, and butt — the areas where warmth matters most. TB4 Firewall uses graphene fibers in a light thermal layer: as your body warms the graphene, the fibers conduct that heat back into your body.
Seam construction and entry
The Hyperfreak Fire uses Fluid Seam Weld construction — triple-glued, blind-stitched interior seams with an exterior Fluid Seam Weld for a fully watertight, highly flexible seam. Fused Super Seal Cuffs prevent water entry at the wrists and ankles. Available with F.U.Z.E. chest zip entry (360-degree anti-flush barrier with drain holes) and Z.E.N. back zip (free-floating zipper panel with anti-flush barrier).
Also available as booties
We also carry Hyperfreak Fire 3mm booties — split-toe for men and women. The same TB4 technology in bootie form for cold winter sessions. Browse surfing booties.
Hyperfreak Fire vs Hyperfreak
The Hyperfreak uses TB3 and TB3X — maximum flexibility, lighter weight. The Hyperfreak Fire uses TB4 with Firewall — more warmth through graphene heat recirculation, slightly more structure. Choose the Hyperfreak Fire for cold winter sessions where warmth is the priority. Choose the Hyperfreak for performance-first surfing in milder conditions.
