Firewire Groove buying guide

The Groove is Firewire's step-down shortboard — designed to maintain shortboard feel and performance while carrying enough extra volume to generate speed in weaker, mushier surf. If the Dominator 2.0 is your good-day board, the Groove is your everyday board for those average Southern California sessions.

Shape and performance

The Groove has a wider outline, flatter rocker, and more foam than a standard performance shortboard. It gets moving earlier in weak surf, generates speed through flatter sections, and still turns well enough to surf critically when conditions improve. A genuinely useful board for the kind of waist-to-chest beach break that makes up most LA surf days.

Groove vs Dominator 2.0

TheDominator 2.0is a higher-performance shape that rewards surfers who can generate their own speed and want more response in average to good surf. The Groove is more forgiving and better suited to weaker conditions where you want the board to help you catch waves and find speed. Many surfers keep both — Dom 2.0 for better days, Groove for average days.

Fin setup

All Groove boards use Futures 5-fin boxes. Run as a thruster in most conditions or switch to quad for more drive in smaller surf. BrowseFutures finsand5-fin sets.
