Firewire Dominator 2.0 buying guide
The Dominator 2.0 is Firewire's core high-performance shortboard — a versatile shape designed to work well in a wide range of conditions from everyday beach break to overhead surf. It is the board in the Firewire lineup that rewards both progressive shortboarding and consistent all-around surfing.
Shape and performance
The Dominator 2.0 has a medium rocker, a refined tail design, and a concave setup that generates speed through turns while maintaining control in steeper sections. It is more forgiving than a purely high-performance competition shortboard but still fully capable of surfing critically on good waves. For everyday LA beach break at El Porto, Venice, or Malibu, the Dominator 2.0 works well across the range of conditions those spots produce.
Fin setup — 5-fin box
All Dominator 2. have a 5-fin box — you can ride as a thruster (3 fins) for more control and pivot, or as a quad (4 fins) for more speed and drive. Most boards use Futures; a smaller number use FCS II. Check the specific listing before buying fins. BrowseFutures fins,FCS and FCS II fins, or5-fin sets.
Dominator 2.0 vs Dominator Pro
The Dominator 2.0 is the more accessible shape — more volume, slightly more forgiveness, and a wider range of surfers who can get the most out of it. TheDominator Prois a narrower, more refined performance board for surfers who want maximum sensitivity and precision. If you are stepping into Firewire from a standard performance shortboard, the Dominator 2.0 is the natural starting point.
Dominator 2.0 vs Groove
TheGrooveis a step-down from the Dominator 2.0 — more volume and width for easier paddling in weaker surf. Choose the Dominator 2.0 for performance in average to good surf. Choose the Groove when conditions are smaller or weaker and you want the board to do more of the work.
Construction and sizing
All Dominator 2.0 boards are epoxy construction — lighter and more buoyant than PU fiberglass. Available in sizes from 5'4" to 6'4" from lighter progressing surfers to heavier experienced riders. Use ourSurfboard Volume Guidefor volume guidance, or contact us with your height and weight.
