Firewire Sweet Potato buying guide

The Sweet Potato is Firewire's dedicated small-wave shortboard — wide, flat, and packed with volume for generating speed in weak and mushy surf. When the waves are small and soft, the Sweet Potato creates speed where other boards struggle.

Shape and performance

The Sweet Potato has a rounded outline with maximum width carried well forward, a flat rocker, and wide tail block — everything designed to plane fast in minimal surf. It is a proper groveler: the board does the work of generating speed so your surfing can focus on turns and flow.

Sweet Potato vs Groove

TheGrooveis a step-down from a performance shortboard — more volume than a Dom 2.0 but still performance-oriented. The Sweet Potato is a dedicated groveler that goes further in the small-wave direction — more width, more volume, better in weaker conditions, less capable in real surf. Choose the Groove if you want a board that works in small and medium surf. Choose the Sweet Potato if small, weak surf is all you are surfing.
