Used Fish Boards buying guide
Used Fish Boards are a smart way to get on a quality board without paying new prices. Rider Shack hand-inspects all used boards before they hit the rack — we check construction, prior repairs, pressure dents, fin boxes, rails, tail, and nose.
What to check before buying
Look at fin box condition first — cracks, wobble, or misalignment are expensive to fix. Check for open dings, soft spots, and signs of water damage (extra weight, brown or yellow foam). Buckle marks across the deck are a dealbreaker — avoid boards with a fold crease. Minor pressure dents are normal. Clean professional repairs are generally fine. Read How to Buy a Used Surfboard for the full checklist.
Fins for this board type
Used fish boards come in twin-fin, quad, thruster, and 5-fin configurations. Classic retro fish shapes typically have twin-fin boxes. Modern hybrid fish often have FCS II or Futures in quad or 5-fin setup. Confirm the fin system and setup before adding fins to your budget. Browse twin fins, quad fins, thruster fins, FCS and FCS II fins.
Leash and accessories
Use a 6' leash for fish boards under 6'4", or a 7' leash for longer hybrid shapes. Browse shortboard leashes. For a bag, see fish and mid bags. For wax and repair supplies, see wax and repair.
