Used Soft Tops buying guide
Used Soft Tops are a smart way to get on a quality board without paying new prices. Rider Shack hand-inspects all used boards before they hit the rack — we check construction, prior repairs, pressure dents, fin boxes, rails, tail, and nose.
What to check before buying
Look at fin box condition first — cracks, wobble, or misalignment are expensive to fix. Check for open dings, soft spots, and signs of water damage (extra weight, brown or yellow foam). Buckle marks across the deck are a dealbreaker — avoid boards with a fold crease. Minor pressure dents are normal. Clean professional repairs are generally fine. Read How to Buy a Used Surfboard for the full checklist.
Fins for this board type
Most used soft tops still have their fins attached — they are typically fixed or use a basic center box. Check that fins are present and undamaged before buying. If you need a replacement fin for a soft top, browse single fins.
Leash and accessories
Use a 7' or 8' leash for most soft tops depending on board length. Browse midlength leashes. For a bag, see longboard bags. For wax and repair supplies, see wax and repair.
